Episode 23 – Soaring Suicide Rates in COVID-19: Is the Economy to Blame?

April 22, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Episode 23 (Jeniffer _ Deborah)

In a time of uncertainty and stress it has been found that the suicide rate is soaring all over the world. This week for episode 23 we bought in a panel of experts on suicide and discussed why the rates are increasing and whether the economy is to blame. Joining us was Jasmine Sandler, Producer & Host of WWIB, who interviewed experts, Jen Hewson, Deborah Max and Janice Chisholm on the topic.

Our first guest, Jen Hewson, is the founder of Canadian Women Healing Our World. Her mission is to provide opportunities for personal growth and healing, to women that are living with emotional pain from having experienced trauma. She works as an Intuitive Counsellor and coach, guiding her clients to heal, and live their lives in alignment with their life purpose. Jen also spends her time in her home community of London, Ontario, Canada, working with disenfranchised women to transform their lives, by providing access to her programs and services at no cost. These same women are offered the opportunity to take the stage at her live speaking event, to share their powerful and incredible stories of transformation. Jen has spoken at many International events, and has a powerful and moving story, about how she changed her entire world, from the ‘inside out’.

Our next guest was Deborah Max, her experience in the field of Mental Health and Suicide includes working as a Emergency Room Crisis Counselor, a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills Trainer, a Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Trainer (ASIST) and a Suicide Alertness Level Trainer (SafeTALK).

And lastly, Janice has served in responsible positions at the NYC Department of Health and Hygiene for close to 20 years. She enjoys the rare advantage of realizing the breadth of mental hygiene concerns, while gaining significant depth of perspective whether working in behalf of babies and toddlers with developmental delays, promoting supported employment for persons with mental illness, coordinating campaigns to promote health integration, or managing services to persons with developmental disabilities. Her work has brought her in close contact with individuals facing mental hygiene crises, the contexts of their communities and environmental influences, and systems of supports and services.
